The 35th Annual Bob Telmosse Christmas Giveaway was held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Springs Church in Colorado Springs.  This was the first year we held the event at this location as the Mortgage Solutions Financial Services Expo Center was reclaimed by UCCS for use as the National Cyber Security Center. We had to modify our distribution points since the church was divided into several areas and recipients had to meander through multiple rooms.  However, there was enough space to accommodate all our offerings albeit a bit confusing for some.
We prepared 600 bags of food to be handed out. There was a limit of one bag per family and all bags were distributed. It is not known how many families did not receive a food bag. Each bag contained a turkey, can of vegetables, stuffing mix, potatoes, and additional fresh and packaged foods were donated by Care and Share.
In addition, there were more than 500 volunteers who came to assist with the giveaway. Volunteers were utilized in the areas of traffic control, donation collectors / sorters / runners, hosts, gift wrappers, help with toys, books, stuffed animals, and Santa’s helpers. Others helped with wristbands, bike repairs and fittings, refreshments, entertainment, and cleanup. There were also dentists on site to offer free dental check-ups.
In preparation for the event, we hosted and/or sponsored the following fundraisers:
09/13/2017 – Fundraising Dinner at Panda Express
10/04/2017 – Eat for Change – Fundraiser with Chipotle
11/24/2017-12/15/2017 – Fill the Hot Tub at Hot Tub Haven
11/25/2017 – Bike Drive at The Brass Tap
12/02/2017 – Bike Drive: Part 2 at The Brass Tap
The following is a list of many of the people and businesses that contributed to the success of this year’s event. This is our compilation of donors and participants who appeared in our Thank-You ad. (We did not include the names of hundreds of volunteers who helped at the event or those who participated in toy drives, bike drives, fundraisers, and the many behind-the-scenes folks who helped in some generous – but anonymous – way.)
