The 36th Annual Bob Telmosse Christmas Giveaway was held on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Norris-Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs. This was the first year we held the event at this location which worked out very well. It included a separate, but connected, area to house the bikes and recipients could exit through a door at the back of the building so that loading bikes into waiting vehicles was convenient. There was ample space for the toys, Olivia’s Corner, Santa Claus, and the food distribution area. There was also plenty of parking space available. It even had a small guard shack at the entrance that we utilized to collect donations on the day of the event. This location worked out so well that we have tentatively agreed to use this facility again for next year’s giveaway.
We prepared 600 bags of food to be handed out. There was a limit of one bag per family and all bags were distributed. It is not known how many families did not receive a food bag. Each bag contained a turkey, can of vegetables, stuffing mix, potatoes, and additional fresh and packaged foods were donated by Care and Share.
The exact number of children who attended is incomplete as many of the wristbands were inadvertently discarded during cleanup. However, counts for children ages 4-7 was 433 and 14+ was 230. It is estimated that more than 3,000 recipients attended the event.
In addition, there were more than 500 volunteers who came to assist with the giveaway. Volunteers were utilized in the areas of traffic control, donation collectors / sorters / runners, hosts, gift wrappers, toy and book monitors, and Santa’s helpers. Others helped with wristbands, bike repairs and fittings, refreshments, entertainment, and cleanup. There were also dentists on site to offer free dental check-ups.
The following is a list of many of the people and businesses that contributed to the success of this year’s event. This is our compilation of donors and participants who appeared in our Thank-You ad. (We did not include the names of hundreds of volunteers who helped at the event or those who participated in toy drives, bike drives, fundraisers, and the many behind-the-scenes folks who helped in some generous – but anonymous – way.)

BTF was involved with numerous fundraisers, toy and bike drives, and marketing opportunities. These events included: The T Rowe Price Community Involvement Fair, Starlight Spectacular Bike Night, Painting with a Twist, Santa 3k Run, Colorado College Hockey Teddy Bear Toss, The Brass Tap Bike Drive, FH Beerworks Bike Drive, and a silent auction. Our Facebook fundraiser netted $870.
We began our fiscal year with $11,541 in our bank accounts and ended with $8,536. We had received $28,010 in donations and grants and paid $31,025 in expenses for the year. This resulted in having $3,005 less to carry over into next year’s budget.
